Natural Supports for People with Traumatic Brain Injury

Abstract:
The Community Link Project of the Missouri Model Brain Injury System (http://www.hsc.missouri.edu/~mombis/) is a research program that helps people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) increase natural supports in the community. Participants are randomly assigned to either a standard treatment control group, or to the Natural Supports group. The treatment involves assessment of the participantÂ’s informal support systems and problem solving with the consumer and family members about ways to enhance community supports and social integration. There are also regular social activities and a listserve available to the treatment group. This study will evaluate the impact of this intervention on employability, community integration, quality of life, family adaptation and health care utilization
