Factors that Foster the Restoration of Health Following Traumatic Brain Injury
Abstract:
Most measures of outcome from TBI were developed without the working input of survivors of TBI and their family members, and reflect clinical perspectives of benchmarks in the recovery process. We converged theories from medicine, systems science, and developmental psychology to build a model for recovery. Using a team of survivors and family members, we developed an instrument that measures recovery and outcome that is consistent with the model. The instrument was used to retrospectively evaluate outcome in a sample of 248 survivors, and is being validated in the prospective sample of the Oregon Model System Project
