Attributes of Rural Trauma Systems that Effect Outcomes
Abstract:
A primary finding of the second CDC-funded study of OregonÂ’s trauma system was a significant reduction in deaths due to head trauma after implementation of the system. However, the only measure of outcome was mortality. As part of the third study funded by the CDC, researchers partnered with the Oregon Traumatic Brain Injury Model System Project, and incorporated into their study outcome measures from the Model System National Data Set as well as OregonÂ’s site-specific outcome measure, the Bob Brown Scale. The purpose is to determine if the trauma system reduces long-term morbidity for patients with TBI.
