Abstract:
This project has several components dealing with the use of
portable electronic devices as cognitive/ behavioral orthoses in
post-acute TBI rehabilitation. In one component, digital voice organizers were shown to improve clients' recall of treatment goals and plans discussed with clinical case managers, in a randomized within-subjects trial (Hart et al., Use of a portable voice organizer to remember therapy goals in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation: A within-subjects trial; Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation 17:556-570, 2002). In another component, 80 clinicians specializing in TBI rehabilitation were surveyed as to their experiences with, and expectations of, portable AT as applied to cognitive and behavioral rehabilitation (Hart T, O'Neil-Pirozzi T, Morita C: Clinician expectations for portable electronic devices as cognitive-behavioural orthoses in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation (Brain Injury, 17:401-411, 2003).
