Treatment of Post-TBI Fatigue with Modafinil
Abstract:
Fatigue is associated with reduced participation in activities, reduced quality of life, health problems, and cognitive impairments in medical populations and individuals with TBI. However, little research has focused on Post-TBI Fatigue (PTBIF). The proposed project is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial designed to examine the utility of modafinil (Provigil) as a potential treatment for PTBIF. No medications are currently FDA approved for the treatment of PTBIF, and existing treatments have been shown to have side-effects and limited effectiveness. Impact will be measured using data from self-report measures of fatigue and performance on serial neuropsychological batteries.
