Archived Project ID# 240 of the TBINDC Registry
Demonstration of the ability of emerging technological interventions for severe spasticity to improve community integration for persons with motor impairment after TBI.

Abstract:
Spasticity remains a major cause of disability among patients with severe TBI. Spasticity contributes to functional limitations in ambulation and activities of daily living (ADL). It is also a major risk factor for the development of contractures, which may be observed in 85% of admissions with severe TBI . The incidence among patients with TBI sent to nursing homes is probably higher than that observed in the rehabilitation setting as patients receive less aggressive treatment. The present project seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of a multispecialty clinic using a variety of approaches including BTXA and ITB in managing spasticity after TBI and improving outcome.
