Costs of TBI: A Model Based on Incidence and Prognosis

Abstract:
In addition to a dearth of epidemiological data on TBI, population-based studies of costs of care are also lacking. The immediate cost impact of TBI will be estimated by examining the average medical costs accrued by each subject for the year prior to injury compared to the costs accrued for the year following injury on a month-by-month basis. Goals of this study are: (1) development of an incidence-based model that encompasses the direct and indirect costs of TBI; (2) comparison of direct and indirect costs of TBI resulting from violent vs. nonviolent causes.
