Relationship of early neuropsychological functioning with supervision needs one year after traumatic brain injury

Abstract:
A recently completed study employing TBI Model Systems data revealed that cognitive deficits at one year after TBI are associated with a higher need for supervision at that time, among individuals who do not have significant motor deficits. The present study will examine the relationship between cognitive deficits early in the course of recovery (using the neuropsychological evaluation completed during inpatient rehabilitation) and supervision needs at one year after the trauma. The goal is to establish (if possible) guidelines for clinicians to follow in advising survivors and family members about potential supervision needs in the future.
